Ron Burton was a three-year starter at quarterback for the Raiders from 1966-68. Burton concluded his career one of the top offensive leaders in college football and graduated as Colgate's all-time leader in passing yardage with 2,389 yards and total offense with 4,128 yards. He was the team's leading passer all three years, and in 1967 also led the Raiders in rushing (453) and scoring (30). In 1966, Burton helped Colgate to its most successful season in over 30 years with an 8-1-1 record. He was the first recipient of the Andy Kerr Trophy, presented annually to Colgate’s offensive MVP.
 
The Montclair, New Jersey, native also patrolled centerfield on the baseball team. During his senior year, Burton helped out as an assistant coach of the freshmen baseball team. Over the years, Burton continued to serve his alma mater. He was elected a Vice President of the Colgate Alumni Corp., and served on the Colgate University Board of Trustees.
