Pete Smith lettered in three sports during his undergraduate career. He earned six varsity letters: three in baseball, two in soccer and one in cross country. He distinguished himself in baseball during the 1961 season, when he set the NCAA record for most strikeouts in a game with 23 against Bucknell. As a junior he led Colgate to a berth in the NCAA regional playoffs while posting a 9-2 record. The former All-East pitcher had a combined career mark of 20-5 and set the Colgate record for strikeouts in a season with 99. He also was the starting goalie on Colgate’s only undefeated soccer team which posted a 9-0 record in 1960.
