HALL OF HONOR
Jim McGuire was a three-year letterwinner in track, and earned one varsity letter in cross country (1946). In his first track season with the Red Raiders, he ran the 100, 220 and 440-yard runs in dual meet competition. He finished the season with 17 wins and only one loss. His specialty was the 440, where he was considered one of the best in the nation, winning the IC4A championship with a time of 48.4. Later that season, McGuire grabbed All-America honors after placing third in the National AAU championship. He finished the season ranked seventh in the world and fourth in the United States. After one year of active duty in the Marines, McGuire returned to Colgate in 1946, helping the Red Raiders in the relay events, including winning the Class "B" mile relay at the Penn Relays that spring.
