HALL OF HONOR
Al Diebolt waged a courageous fight to overcome the effects of a childhood automobile accident and became a world class sprinter in track. He was the first Eastern runner to cover the quarter-mile in under 47 seconds; his best time was 0:46.4. Diebolt was the anchor man on the mile relay team at the 1941 Millrose Games in New York’s Madison Square Garden that set the record of 3:24.5 which stood for 11 years. His greatest moment came during the 1942 New York Athletic Club meet when he ran the Buermeyer 500 in electrifying fashion on the way to the world record clocking of 0:57.1, which stood until 1949.
