Ed Roll established himself as one of the finest sprinters in Colgate history. His illustrious career earned him several school records, regional recognition and an Olympic tryout. During his collegiate career, Roll set the Colgate record in the 440-yard run, and for three years ran anchor leg on the school’s crack mile-relay team. In 1928, he qualified for the finals in the 440 at the prestigious Intercollegiates where he finished sixth. The former Red Raider captain also was on Colgate’s mile-relay team that placed second at the Penn Relays.
