HALL OF HONOR
John Paske was a two-year letterwinner in football and team captain in 1965. The former Colgate linebacker led one of the finest defensive teams in school history under head coach Hal Lahar. The Raiders gave up only 8.5 points per game while finishing third in the nation in pass defense – yielding 77.8 yards per game. Along with teammate Ray Ilg, they formed one of the best linebacker combinations in the country, and were responsible for six shutouts over a two-year period. During Colgate’s famous 29-28 win over Army in 1965, Paske was called upon to play tight end, and played a key role in the victory. To this day, he is credited with the third longest interception return in school record going 88 yards against Lehigh in 1964. John also was a standout shot putter and held the second longest distance in school history. After graduation, he came back to Colgate as an assistant football coach from 1972 through 1974.
