Clary Anderson was honored for his outstanding coaching career. In 27 years as a scholastic coach, he recorded 1,039 victories and 297 losses, with 22 games ending in ties for an overall percentage of .777 in five different sports. As a scholastic football coach, his teams lost only 23 times in 27 seasons, including 12 undefeated seasons. Anderson lettered in football and baseball at Colgate. He was the high scorer on Colgate’s 1932 undefeated football team and co-captain of the 1934 squad. In baseball, he had a career batting average of .414 while leading Colgate to a 41-12 record in three seasons.
