Kurt Brown served as an alternate captain for the Colgate hockey team during the 1962-63 and 1963-64 seasons, and between the pipes Brown helped lead the Raiders to their first appearance in the ECAC hockey playoffs. Brown recorded a 1.83 goals against average during the 1962-63 season, which was the best in all US collegiate hockey. Brown held the Colgate record for single season goals against average for 41 years and ranked seventh in ECAC hockey history. Brown still holds the career save percentage and single season save percentage records with a .917 and .930 respectively. He was also a three-year letterwinner with the baseball team. After Colgate, Brown attended training camp with the Providence Reds of the American Hockey League and eventually signed and played for the Dutch National Team in The Hague, Holland for the 1964-1965 season.
