HALL OF HONOR
Mark Murphy was a regular on the Colgate football team from midway through his freshman season at defensive back. In his senior year, the four-year letterwinner led Colgate to an 8-2 record while being selected to the 1976 Eastern College Athletic Conference all-star squad and chosen for honorable mention honors on the Associated Press all-East team. As a junior, Murphy led Colgate in tackles and interceptions and received the Hal W. Lahar Trophy as the most valuable defensive player. In 1977, Murphy was one of two rookies to make the Washington Redskins in the NFL. A free-agent signee, he became a starter in the Redskins’ secondary in 1979. In 1983, Murphy was a first team all-pro selection while playing on the Super Bowl Championship team. He led the NFL in interceptions that season. The following year, Murphy was selected as the Redskin Man-of-the-Year. He also lettered in baseball.Â
