Jack Nichols lettered three years in men's basketball (1955, 1956 and 1957) for the Red Raiders. He was Colgate's all-time scoring leader (1,411) and rebounder at the time of his graduation, and still was the alltime leading rebounder at the time of his induction into the Hall of Honor with 1,082 rebounds - 40 years later. Nichols averaged a school-record 15.0 rebounds per game during his career, and held the top-two single season rebounding totals in the school's history with 422 in 1955-56 and 406 in 1956-57. He shared the school record for most rebounds in a game with 26 and averaged a school record 16.9 rebounds per game in 1956-57. Nichols was the first Colgate player to score more than 1,000 points in two different seasons. He tied for 24th in the nation in scoring with 22.0 points per game in 1956-57 and 38th in the nation in scoring with 21.9 points per game in 1955-56. He was 12th in the nation in rebounding in 1955-56 and 1956-57. Nichols held school mark for consecutive games scoring in double figures with 57. He was picked 10th by the Syracuse Nationals in the college draft.
