Richard Johnston twice earned All-America honors during his standout collegiate track career. In 1965 he was All-America in the indoor 600-yard run and outdoor 440-yard hurdles. He finished his career as the school’s record holder in the 400-meter hurdles (50.5 seconds) and co-holder of the outdoor 4x440 yard relay mark (3:14.0). At the time of his induction, Johnston held the second best time in the 800 meters, third best time in the 600-yard run and sixth best in the 500 meters.
