HALL OF HONOR
Dex Teed left a promising newspaper career to return to his alma mater as a teacher and director of journalism from 1932-40. He was Colgate’s first athletic publicity director serving in that capacity between 1940-42. He was credited with coining the phrase “The Red Raiders” - a name associated since then with all Colgate collegiate teams. Teed left the Chenango Valley to go with the New York Post in 1943 at the height of World War II. He remained with the Post almost 20 years before his death. Teed began his journalism career as a police reporter with the Syracuse Post-Standard after graduation and a correspondent during his undergraduate days.
