Ed Tryon was captain of Colgate’s unbeaten eleven of 1925. He once piled up five touchdowns in a gorgeous exhibition of broken field running against Ohio State in 1923. In his freshman year, Tryon was the second highest scorer in the East, and in his senior season was the leading scorer in the nation while leading Colgate to a four-year total of 24 wins, nine losses and three ties. He was mentioned on the All-America team in each of his four years, made the second team on Walter Camp’s AllAmerica squad in 1923 and, in his final year, was unanimous choice for all the All-Americas in the land. He was elected to the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame in 1963 and later was chosen for the Helms Foundation Hall of Fame.
