Raiders land Player, Rookie of the Week after historic weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Colgate Softball junior Nora Megenity and first-year Kayla Martin were named Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, after helping the Raiders to a 5-1 week including the program's first-ever three-game sweep at Lehigh.

Colgate closed the week on a five-game winning streak, powered by a .335 team batting average and 16 home runs, including 11 during the Lehigh series. The home run barrage included 11 long balls in the three-game sweep at Lehigh over the weekend.

The Raiders shattered the program's single-game and single-season home run record with seven long balls in the opener against Lehigh. Colgate's 46 home runs ranks 23rd nationally and breaks its own Patriot League record (40 in 2003) for the most home runs in a season.

Megenity led the charge batting .520 (13-25) with a 1.200 slugging and .571 on-base percentage. She belted five home runs and racked up 12 RBIs with two doubles and eight runs scored out of the leadoff spot.

The Atlanta native recorded three hits in three separate games last week, including back-to-back 3-for-5 showings in the final two victories at Lehigh. Megenity reached base safely in all six games on the week.

Martin slashed .450 (9-20) with a .850 slugging and .560 on-base percentage on the week. She cranked two homers and finished with eight RBIs, five runs scored, and two doubles. Martin also earned five walks against just two strikeouts.

With Colgate down to its final out trailing 9-8 in the series opener at Lehigh, Martin lifted a two-strike solo blast that tied the game in the top of the seventh. The Raiders went on to win in extra innings, 10-9, setting the stage for the three-game sweep.

Megenity is Colgate's first Patriot League Player of the Week honoree this season. Martin garnered her first Rookie of the Week nod, joining two-time selection Marina Taveras
