BETHLEHEM, Pa. –
Analisa Raffaelli's two-run homer to center in the 10th inning lifted Colgate to a 7-5 win over Lehigh on Sunday, completing a three-game sweep at Leadership Park.
The sweep is Colgate's first-ever three-game sweep of Lehigh and marks the Raiders' first 3-0 start in Patriot League play since 2012.
COACH LAMISON-MYERS COMMENTS
"I am so proud of the way we battled today. It wasn't easy but we kept to our plan and executed when we needed it the most. Alexa was clutch in the circle giving our offense a chance. This group is fun to coach and even more fun to watch."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Colgate hit three more home runs Sunday to finish the series with 11. Raffaelli's go-ahead blast in the 10th followed earlier home runs from
Kayla Martin and
Nora Megenity.
Martin went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Megenity was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs.
Marina Taveras added two hits and a walk.
Alexa Acker earned the win with 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, closing the game with a perfect 10th.
Colgate jumped in front early on Megenity's three-run homer in the second and Martin's two-run shot in the third to build a 5-1 lead.
Lehigh answered with four runs in the sixth to tie the game, but Acker entered in relief and escaped further damage. She stranded two runners in scoring position in the eighth, capping the inning with a strikeout, setting the stage for Raffaelli.
Both teams threatened late before Raffaelli broke through in the 10th with a two-run homer to straightaway center. Acker then retired the side in order to seal the win.
