Big Run Leads Colgate Past Siena, 14-11

Three Raiders record hat tricks in non-conference win

HAMILTON – Colgate (4-5) used a 5-0 run midway through the game to take the lead for good in a 14-11 non-conference win over Siena (2-6) on a sunny Tuesday afternoon at Andy Kerr Stadium.

Three Raiders recorded hat tricks in the victory, led by Caroline Panzirer who added three assists to finish with six points. Ella Bishara and Aubrey McMahon each had three goals, while Lucy Licata and Kait Henning each finished with two tallies.

COACH GUIDO'S COMMENTS

"We're really excited about today's win. This is the first time beating Siena for this group. They're a team that battles it out and typically competes well in the MAAC. For us today, our offense came to play and defensively we knew the game plan. Siena fought back in the end, but we were able to hold them. We did a really good job of being calm and staying disciplined throughout the game."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game was tied 4-4 when the Raiders hit another gear offensively. McMahon scored twice in a minute span, and then Bishara and Grace DelNegro capped off the half with back-to-back tallies to build an 8-4 Colgate lead at the intermission.
  • Panzirer finished her second goal of the game three minutes into the second stanza, bookending the big 5-0 burst and giving Colgate a 9-4 advantage.
  • Siena broke its scoring drought with a goal at the 9:24 mark of the third quarter, but then Colgate went right back on the attack with a 4-0 surge led by back-to-back goals from Licata less than a minute apart to give the Raiders their largest lead of the game, 13-5.
  • The visiting Saints mounted a fourth-quarter rally, scoring six unanswered goals to bring the score 13-11 with less than two  minutes remaining in regulation.
  • Colgate won the ensuing possession, and Panzirer pounded the back of the net with her third goal of the contest with 40 seconds left to cap off the win, 14-11.
