Raiders dominate Wildcats on the road to improve to 3-2 on the season

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Colgate (3-2) scored 12 unanswered goals, including an 8-0 blitz in the second quarter, to run away with a 16-5 road victory over 19th-ranked Villanova (1-2) on Saturday afternoon. 

Eight Raiders scored in the victory, led by three goals apiece from Jack Turner, Liam Connor, and Casey Quinson. Rory Connor added two goals and two assists, while Ryan Favaro registered two goals and one helper. Matt LaCombe earned the win in net with 13 saves on the afternoon. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Villanova scored the first two goals of the game before Colgate started its torrid burst led by two quick goals from Turner to even the score 2-2 after the first frame. Liam and Rory Connor, along with Quinson, scored two goals apiece in a dominant second quarter in which Colgate outscored the Wildcats 8-0. 
  • Max Yates contributed on the defensive end in the second period, causing two Villanova turnovers. The Raiders extended their lead to 10-2 in the closing seconds of the second with Turner's third goal of the matchup.
  • The Raiders opened the third by scoring two more goals, which extended the streak to 12 unanswered tallies, with the latter coming through a Drouin man-up goal to stretch the lead to 12-2. 
  • Villanova was able to take advantage of a Colgate penalty to finally end the Raider run, scoring with 6:55 remaining in the period to make it 12-3 after three quarters. 
  • The teams traded goals to open the fourth, including Tommy Arata lll scoring his first career goal. 
  • L. Connor, Quinson, and Favaro netted three unanswered to carry the Raiders to the finish line with a 16-4 triumph. 

GAME NOTES
  • Saturday's win caps off a 2-0 week for the Raiders, who have now won back-to-back games against ranked opponents after dispatching No. 15 Harvard on Tuesday, 19-15. 
  • Rory Connor provided the only multi-assist game for the Raiders with two dishes.
  • Quinson registered his first career hat trick. 
  • Turner increased his goal tally on the year to 15, to take sole possession of the team lead in scoring.
  • Colgate outshot Villanova 50-42 including a 31-23 advantage in shots on goal. The Raiders, despite Villanova winning the faceoff battle 16-9, forced the Wildcats into 33 turnovers and just 13-of-26 on clear attempts.


UP NEXT
The Raiders will hit the road again to take on Loyola next Saturday at 12 p.m. for their first Patriot League matchup of the season.
