IRVING, Texas – Colgate Football senior placekicker
Luke Vogeler was named one of 206 semifinalists for the 2026 William V. Campbell Trophy, college football's premier scholar-athlete award, announced Wednesday by the National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame.
An economics major from Caledonia, Mich., Vogeler has contributed to many community service and volunteer initiatives during his time at Colgate. He recently served as a credit analyst intern for an independent bank, where he gained experience toward his anticipated postgraduate field of study in finance.
A two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member, Vogeler has also volunteered at a recreational center designed for children with weakened immune systems, Children's Healing Center, where he supported staff in delivering summer programming and facilitated clean, safe play-based activities.
In addition to his work toward his degree, Vogeler is a two-time All-Patriot League placekicker. He was named to the Preseason All-Patriot League team and is recently coming off the conference's Special Teams Player of the Week honor after knocking in a 48-yard field goal and accounting for four points at Central Michigan.
Vogeler is 29-for-41 (70.73%) in field goals made during his Colgate career – seven made kicks away from becoming the program's all-time leader. He also holds the Colgate record with two career field goals of 50-plus yards, headlined by a collegiate career-long 51-yard strike at Akron in September 2024.
Nominated by their schools, each candidate must be competing in the 2026 season as a senior in his final year of eligibility or a graduate student/graduate transfer who has already earned a degree; have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale; have outstanding football ability as a first team player or significant contributor; and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.
The class is selected each year by the NFF Awards Committee, which is composed of a nationally recognized group of media, NFF College Football Hall of Famers and athletics administrators. The Campbell Trophy was first awarded in 1990, adding to the prestige of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards. Past Campbell Trophy® recipients include two Rhodes Scholars, a Rhodes Scholar finalist, two Heisman Trophy winners and ten first-round NFL Draft picks.
