SYRACUSE — The No. 18/20 Raiders pulled within two twice in the fourth quarter but could not complete the comeback, falling 16-12 to No. 10 Syracuse at the JMA Wireless Dome Saturday. `
COACH KARWECK'S COMMENTS
"What a great Upstate New York battle that was. It was two great teams fighting it out until the end. I was very proud of our guys, they responded in the second half and did a great job. We have a lot to take from this and we are going to continue to move forward. We are excited about learning our lessons and pushing forward."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hunter Drouin brought Colgate within a pair at 14-12 with a man-up goal with just over two and a half minutes remaining in the game, but the Orange netted two more late ones to secure the 16-12 win.
- Colgate began the fourth on a 3-0 run. Casey Quinson recorded back-to-back goals, and Rory Connor followed, making it a two-goal game at 13-11.
- In the third, following three straight from the Orange, the Raiders went on a 4-1 run. Jack Turner notched two straight tallies, and then Ryan Favaro and Drouin found the back of the net after an SU goal, putting the score at 12-8.
- Colgate got back-to-back goals from Liam Connor and R. Connor, bringing it within four at 8-4 just over two minutes into the third.
- The Orange scored three goals in the second quarter and held the Raiders off the scoreboard to take an 8-3 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- Syracuse netted three straight to take a 4-1 lead in the first before the Raiders got one back. The home side added one more at the end of the first, putting the score at 5-2.
- The Orange took the lead five seconds into the game, Favaro evened it up with a man-up with just under 12 and a half minutes left.
GAME NOTES
- L. Connor and R. Connor finished with a team-high five points behind two goals and three assists each.
- Drouin added three points (2G, 1A).
- Qunison, Favaro, and Turner tallied two goals.
- Sam Erickson posted his fourth game with multiple caused turnovers, logging two.
- Turner also collected a team-high four ground balls, while John Carrabine collected three.
- Matt LaCombe recorded 10 saves in goal.
