Raiders Fall at #15/16 Quinnipiac

Bobcats score five unanswered to win 6-3

HAMDEN, CONN.  No. 15/16 Quinnipiac scored five unanswered goals, including two empty-netters to take a 6-3 win over Colgate Friday evening.

COACH HARDER'S COMMENTS
"We played well. It was a tough game and we deserve better. We will learn from it and those lessons will serve us well moving forward."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Andone Cerbone topped off his hat trick with just over two minutes to play in the third, giving the Bobcats a 4-3 advantage. Travis Treloar and Jack Ricketts added insurance thanks to empty netters with less than a minute and a half left.
  • Alex DiPaolo scored what he thought was the go-ahead goal with just over three minutes left in the third, but it got called off for goaltender interference.
  • Cerbone tied the game at 3-3 with his second of the contest on a power play just over halfway through the third.
  • Quinnipiac made it a one-goal game with a tally from Cerbone six minutes into the second.
  • Reid Irwin had given the Raiders a 3-1 advantage just under three minutes into the second. Ben Raymond got in on goal but could not get a shot off, and the puck landed at Niko Rexine's stick, who dished it to Irwin. The senior skated toward center ice before ripping a wrister that went bar down.
  • Andrew Takacs made 14 saves in the middle frame, preventing the Bobcats from adding another in the period.
  • Max Nagel made it 2-1 Colgate at the 13:57 mark of the first. Michael Neumeier hit the puck down the ice to DiPaolo, who got free on a two-on-one. He passed back to Nagel, who finished off a shot.
  • Quinnipiac scored a minute and 18 seconds after Colgate's first goal in the first period to even the score at 1-1.
  • Robby Newton notched his first goal of the season to give the Raiders that 1-0 advantage 6:46 into the opening frame. Ryan Sullivan won a loose puck along the boards and passed it to Newton, who fired in a shot from between the faceoff circles.

GAME NOTES
  • Takacs finished with 31 saves in goal.
  • Nagel's goal extended his point streak to six games.
  • Nuemeier increased his point streak to five.
  • Raymond tallied a point for the third straight contest.
