Panetta Delivers in Overtime

Raiders Top #18 Quinnipiac, 3-2

HAMILTON — Daniel Panetta notched the overtime game-winning goal to lift Colgate over No. 18 Quinnipiac 3-2 Saturday evening at the Class of 1965 Arena.

PANETTA ON HIS OVERTIME GOAL AND THE WIN
"It is definitely great to get the win tonight, helping us in the standings. We have to continue our success through the way we are playing."

"The goal was an amazing solo effort by our captain Reider (Reid Irwin), making a great move around the defender, and I was lucky the puck was sitting there for me to put in."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Panetta scored the game-winner with 50 seconds remaining. A series of passes between Irwin, Simon Labelle, and Panetta led to Irwin finding space and skating around a defender before taking a shot that got saved. Panetta found the loose puck in front of the goal and cleaned up the rebound.
  • Ben Raymond had given the Raiders a 1-0 advantage with 1:44 remaining in the first. Michael Neumeier deflected a Bobcat pass near the boards, and it landed at the stick of Niko Rexine. He played a pass to Raymond, who skated down the ice, juked out the goalie, and placed a shot into the goal.
  • The Bobcats evened the score at 1-1 when Travis Treloar found the back of the net on a power play a minute and a half into the second.
  • Brett Chorske regained the lead for Colgate five minutes later. Simon Labelle picked up the puck along the boards and played a diagonal pass to Max Nagel, who passed ahead to Chorske. The senior then skated in and beat the goalie five-hole.
  • Quinnipiac leveled the game again with 27 seconds remaining in the middle frame after Andone Cerbone scored.
  • The Raiders nearly ended it with a buzzer-beater after Panetta fired a shot off the crossbar as time expired in regulation. Colgate outshot Quinnipiac 8-3 in the third period.
  • Earlier in the third, Alex DiPaolo had scored what he thought was the go-ahead goal, but it got called off for high sticking.
  • The Raiders killed off a five-minute Bobcat power play in the second after getting assessed a game misconduct penalty.
  • Colgate kept Quinnipiac off the scoreboard in the first and third periods.

GAME NOTES
  • Chorske scored for the fourth straight game and extended his point streak to eight. It ranks tied for the second-longest active point streak in the country.
  • Panetta scored his second overtime-winner of the season after netting one against Sacred Heart Oct. 11.
  • Labelle led the Raiders with two points behind two assists.
  • Takacs recorded 14 saves between the pipes.

  • The win marked Colgate's third straight over the Bobcats at home. It was also the Raiders' second victory over a nationally-ranked opponent this season.
