McGuire Scores in Defeat at #7/8 Maine

Junior Nets 10th Goal of the Season and Extends Point Streak to Eight Games

ORONO, Maine — Ryan McGuire tallied a goal in the third period, but it was too late after No. 7/8 Maine scored three times in the first two periods in a 3-1 defeat of the Raiders Friday evening.

"We played well tonight but were not able to convert in crucial moments. We will fine tune some things and look to split the series tomorrow," said head coach Mike Harder.

McGuire scored just over halfway through the final stanza to get Colgate on the board. After a Maine penalty, the Raiders pulled their goalie to get a two-man advantage. Ross Mitton passed across the ice to Brett Chorske, who played a short set-up pass to McGuire for a one-timer he ripped into the back of the net. The goal extended the junior's point streak to eight games, the longest active streak in ECAC Hockey.

The Raiders continued to try to make a late push, outshooting Maine 12-6 in the third, but they could not put another one in.

The Black Bears struck first when Bradly Nadeau found the back of the net five and a half minutes into the opening period to put his team up 1-0. Maine scored two more in the second. Just under five minutes in, Harrison Scott put one in to double the lead. Ryan Hopkins added a late goal with 51 seconds remaining, making it 3-0.

Colgate had some good looks in the middle frame, firing 15 shots. Tommy Bergsland ripped one off the post with just over nine minutes left, leaving the Raiders inches away from a goal.

Carter Gylander made 17 saves in the second, shutting down some heavy pressure from Maine. This included a string of six saves in just 27 seconds. The senior held the Black Bears scoreless in the third, finishing with 32 saves in the game.

Colgate recorded just four shots in the opening period. The Raiders had an opportunity with a power play at the 13:20 mark but could not capitalize. Colgate's penalty kill unit also shut down an early Maine chance just 42 seconds into the contest.
