HAMILTON — A three-goal third period helped the Raiders secure a 6-3 victory over Princeton Saturday evening at the Class of 1965 Arena.
Colgate scored three power-play goals for the first time this season and put up six goals for the third time.
"We are certainly happy with the results this weekend but clearly recognize that we have a long way to go in order to achieve our goal," said head coach Mike Harder.
Five different Raiders scored and seven players logged multi-point performances, led by
Alex DiPaolo, who registered a goal and two assists.
Ryan McGuire also recorded his second multi-goal game of the season, scoring twice.
Carter Gylander had another standout performance in goal, stopping 40 shots. He made double-digit saves in all three periods, including 16 in the third.
The Raiders held a 3-2 lead at the start of the third and began it on a five-minute power play after a challenge led to a major and game misconduct call against the Tigers.
Colgate scored twice on the major, beginning with DiPaolo finding the back of the net 58 seconds in to make it 4-2. Just over three minutes later, McGuire netted his second of the contest to expand the lead to three.
Ben Raymond added another a minute and nine seconds later to put the scoreboard at 6-2. The junior sniped one from the right faceoff circle off assists from
Jake Schneider and
Tommy Bergsland.
McGuire scored the game's lone goal in the second period, which came on a power play just under halfway through.
A back-and-forth first period saw the two sides tied at 2-2 after Princeton drew even twice. The Raiders got on the board first thanks to first-year
Dom Foglia scoring his first career goal three and a half minutes in.
Daniel Panetta won a faceoff that landed at the stick of Bergsland, who passed to Foglia for a shot he ripped from just inside the blue line.
Princeton tied it at 1-1 when Jack Cronin netted a power-play goal at the 7:11 mark. Schneider then put Colgate back ahead with a minute and 27 seconds left.
Daniel Panetta deflected a Princeton pass in the Raiders' offensive zone that bounced right to Schneider, and he ripped a shot past the Tigers' net. Princeton answered again, with Adam Robbins putting one in with nine seconds left.
