HANOVER, N.H. — Alex Young notched the overtime game-winning goal to secure a 4-3 win over Dartmouth Saturday evening.
With 45 seconds remaining in the extra period, Nick Anderson passed to Young as the junior skated up the ice and slotted a shot past the goalie. It was Young's 16th goal of the season and his third game-winner.
Dartmouth tied the game up with 1:07 remaining in regulation after Braiden Dorfman scored to knot it up at 3-3.
Earlier in the third, Colgate notched a pair of goals to take a 3-2 lead. Ross Mitton found the back of the net for the second-straight game to put the Raiders up. Tommy Bergsland passed to Reid Irwin, who fired a shot that got saved. Mitton then swooped in and finished off the rebound.
Colton Young notched a beautiful goal at the 7:43 mark of the third to tie it up at 2-2. Carter Gylander tallied his second career point after he tapped the puck to Anderson, who skated up the ice and dished it to Young. The senior skated by a pair of Dartmouth players before ripping a shot into the net.
The Big Green had taken a 2-1 lead after Jack Cameron cannoned a one-timer from long distance on the right side of the ice that flew into the goal.
Both teams potted goals early in the second. Dartmouth was first to get on the board when Luke Haymes passed to Tanner Palocsik, who slammed a slap shot into the back of the net from just inside the blue line.
Just 28 seconds later, Matt Verboon answered with an equalizing goal. Mitton skated behind the net and tapped the puck to Alex DiPaolo, who dished a short pass in front of the net to Verboon for a shot he snuck between the goalie and the right post.
Neither side could pull ahead in the opening period. The Raiders outshot the Big Green 16-8 and had two power play opportunities, including a two-man up chance that spilled over to the second period.
Colgate's first power play came at the 10:09 mark after the Big Green got called for tripping. With 1:42 remaining Dartmouth got called for interference and a little over a minute later, it got hit with a tripping penalty, giving the Raiders a five-on-three chance, but they could not capitalize.
Gylander stopped 29 shots in net as he improved to 13-10-2 on the year. The junior made a big diving save in OT to prevent a potential Dartmouth game-winner.
The Raiders finished with a slight advantage in shots at 34-32.
