HAMILTON, N.Y.— The Colgate men's hockey team battled first-ranked Quinnipiac for the first two periods before the Bobcats pulled away with three goals in the third.
Quinnipiac got on the board 57 seconds into the game when Zach Metsa took a shot that deflected off the skate of a Raiders' player and went into the goal
The Bobcats doubled their lead with four and a half minutes left in the first after Wyatt Bongiovanni scored.
The Raiders answered right back, as just 27 seconds later
Alex DiPaolo found
Ethan Manderville who ripped a shot past Quinnipiac's goalie.
Neither side found the back of the net in the second. Colgate had two power-play chances in the period but could not capitalize on either.
In the third, Metsa scored his second of the night eight and half minutes into the period and Oliver Chau followed with a goal seven minutes later to make it 4-1 Quinnipiac.
Guus van Nes topped off the scoring, putting in an empty netter with just over a minute and a half remaining in the game.
In a battle between two of the top-10 faceoff teams in the country, it would end evenly with both sides going 29-58 in the circle.
The Bobcats had the advantage in shots, firing 27 compared to the Raiders' 20.
Colgate goalie
Mitch Benson had 22 saves in net.

Head Coach Don Vaughan
"We went toe to toe with one of the best teams in the country for two periods. Unfortunately for us games are three periods long. We didn't have an answer for their third period push. They deserve the recognition they are receiving. I don't think I have seen a more complete team this year. We need to regroup quickly and be ready for a Princeton team that obviously played well tonight at Cornell."
