HAMILTON, N.Y.— The Colgate men's hockey team tied Princeton 2-2 on Saturday before taking the extra point for the league standings with a 2-0 shootout win.
Less than three minutes into the game Pierson Brandon opened the scoring for the Raiders. Colton Young tapped a pass back to him that he was able to finish off to give Colgate the lead.
The Tigers answered back as with six minutes remaining in the first Luke Kennan scored off of a Raiders' turnover to make it 1-1.
Colgate put up a season-high 23 shots in the second period. With nine minutes remaining in the middle frame, Ross Mitton played the puck across to Arnaud Vachon who fired his shot into the goal.
Just over a minute into the third Princeton equalized again with a goal from Liam Gorman. Neither side was able to pull ahead from there, so the game went to overtime.
In overtime, the Raiders had a few good looks at goal but could not capitalize on their chances.
The game would then go to a shootout to determine who would get the extra point. Ethan Manderville and Josh McKechney scored for the Raiders and Andrew Farrier made two big saves that led Colgate to a 2-0 victory in the shootout.
Farrier had 22 saves total on the night.
The Raiders' finished with a 44-25 shot advantage in the game and also had control in the faceoff circle going 36-61.
