HAMILTON – With five different Raiders notching goals, the No. 5 Colgate women's hockey team secured a 5-0 win over St. Lawrence on Senior Night. With the win, the Raiders are 12-5-1 and 7-3 in ECAC Hockey play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Raiders dominated the puck from the start of the game, and just 1:28 into the contest, senior
Malia Schneider scored from the right faceoff zone to give the Raiders the 1-0 lead.
Just 1:16 later, sophomore
Darcie Lappan tipped the puck in off a deflected shot by junior
Maggie MacEachern to make the score 2-0 not even three minutes into the contest.
The Raiders continued their pressure in the offensive zone, but a major boarding penalty sent sophomore
Danielle Serdachny to the box. After a minor penalty was also called, the Raiders faced a 3-on-5 penalty kill, but the defense by the Raiders and outstanding goaltending by first-year
Kayle Osborne kept the Saints off the board.
After the Saints were called for a penalty at the 16:39 mark of the first period, sophomore
Kaitlyn O'Donohoe capitalized on the power play and scored with one second left in the advantage to make the score 3-0 at the end of the period. Headed into the second, Colgate was outshooting the Saints 11-10.
Colgate continued to pressure offensively in the second period, and at the 5:16 mark of the period, O'Donohoe capitalized on a St. Lawrence turnover and passed to sophomore
Sammy Smigliani low in the slot who scored, giving the Raiders the 4-0 lead.
At the 11:10 mark in the second period, junior
Rosy Demers skated up the right side and scored as the puck crossed the goal line into the upper shelf to make the score 5-0.
The Raiders continued to get great shots on goal throughout the third period but were unable to tally another goal. At the end of the game, the Raiders outshot the Saints 34-25.

HEAD COACH GREG FARGO'S TAKE
"Today was a really special day for our seniors but also for our entire team. We really could not have drawn up a better senior day for our six outstanding seniors.
"I thought we came out ready to go in the first period and made the most of our scoring chances early on. We followed up the early goals with a tremendous five-minute penalty kill and then a power play goal. Things were really clicking in that first period for us. I know our team really wanted to play well for our seniors, and honor them in that way and we were able to do just that.
"This group has meant so much to our program these past four years and they continue to leave their mark here. I can't wait to see how the rest of this story is written for them and this team."
