Serdachny's Late Goal Lifts Raiders Over Bobcats

Osborne Records 29 Saves in Win

HAMDEN, Conn. – Sophomore Danielle Serdachny scored the game-winning goal with 2:37 remaining to give the No. 5 Colgate women's hockey team the win over Quinnipiac Friday night. With the 4-2 victory, Colgate is now 13-5-1 overall and have clinched home ice for the ECAC Hockey tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first period saw action across the sheet with both teams getting good shots on goal to start the game. Not even five minutes into the contest, Quinnipiac scored to take the 1-0 lead. Just 23 seconds later, Darcie Lappan capitalized on a turnover and tied the contest up at 1-1.

Throughout the period, first-year Kayle Osborne made several great saves to keep the Bobcats from scoring again, but with 50 seconds remaining in the period, Quinnipiac notched another goal to take the 2-1 lead heading into the second period.

The start of the second period was immediately dominated by the Raiders and at the 1:01 mark, first-year Kalty Kaltounkova chipped the puck in off a pass from sophomore Kaitlyn O'Donohoe to tie the game up at 2-2.

The rest of the period saw more scoring opportunities for the Raiders, but they were unable to tally another goal in the period. Osborne had another stellar period in which she recorded 10 saves, and headed into the final 20:00, Colgate and Quinnipiac both had 25 shots on goal.

Both teams had yet to commit a penalty until the 15:55 mark of the third period when the Bobcats headed to the box for the first time, giving the Raiders their first power play of the night. The Raiders quickly picked up a penalty of their own, but a successful kill kept the game at 2-2 with 11:20 remaining.

With the game in its final minutes, sophomore Danielle Serdachny secured the puck in the neutral zone and skated up the right side and scored in the top left corner of the net to give the Raiders the 3-2 lead.

Soon after, the Bobcats pulled their goalie to try and tie the contest up, but sophomore Allyson Simpson scored an empty netter from the neutral zone to give the Raiders the two-goal lead with just under a minute to play.

HEAD COACH GREG FARGO'S TAKE
"It sure felt like both teams played well tonight. It was an exciting back-and-forth game and I thought they had us on our heels in the first period. They are very well coached, and they play a disciplined game. We knew we'd have to earn it if we were going to come out on top.

"There were some key moments as there always is. What stands out is how we responded after they scored first and how we came out in the second period. Danielle [Serdachny] make a heck of a play to put the game away late."
