Colgate Cruises to Fourth Straight

Raiders Rout Dartmouth 5-2, Smigliani Stays Hot

HAMILTON - The Raiders closed out the first home weekend of 2020 hosting Dartmouth. Coming off somewhat of a statement victory against No. 9 Harvard, Colgate was ready to build on its recent success.

Both teams struggled to find offense in the first period. Missing a few chances and limiting Dartmouth to only four shots on goal, the game remained scoreless going into the first break. It's safe to say Head Coach Greg Fargo and his staff made the necessary adjustments to fire up the offense for the remainder of the day.

Darcie Lappan opened up the scoring two minutes into the second period. The goal marked Lappan's third of the weekend and extended her goal streak to three games.

Three minutes later, Rosy Demers followed suit with a shorthanded goal to put her team up 2-0 as Sydney Bard hit double digit assists on the year. Scoring in bunches becoming a theme, Coralie Larose tallied her sixth of the year and the eventual game winner a few minutes later.

Dartmouth refused to go away, scoring midway through the second to begin a potential rally. Tanner Gates put any hopes of a Big Green comeback to bed with the fifth goal of her sophomore campaign.

Going into the final 20 minutes with a 4-1 lead, things were looking good for Colgate to seal the deal on its first four-game win streak of the season. Sammy Smigliani provided an exclamation with her 11th goal and second of the weekend. The freshman has scored in five straight games and has recorded ten points in that stretch.

From the Source Head Coach Greg Fargo on next weekend

On next weekend's Cornell series

  • "The Cornell series is important for us and it'll be a great challenge for our team. The last three weeks here have been good in a lot of ways and we've made strides in our game since coming back from break. That will be put to the test this upcoming weekend. These are the games we want to be playing in."

On the success of Colgate's second line

  • "It was great to see the line of Demers, Lappan, and Larose have a strong weekend. It's nice to have scoring up and down the lineup and that line came ready to play. They were great on both sides of the puck and came up with some big penalty kills. Overall, I like the way that line is trending for us."
