POTSDAM, N.Y. - Colgate went into Cheel Arena looking to avenge its season ending loss from the previous year.
The Raiders asked a lot of Liz Auby in the first period. The newly named ECAC Goalie of the Month answered the call, stopping all ten shots directed at her and keeping the Golden Knights scoreless. Offensively, Colgate tallied eight shots in the opening 20 minutes and saw the game's first power play opportunity. Clarkson goaltender Marie-Pier Coloumbe followed Auby's lead to create a proverbial pitcher's duel. An action packed second period would flip the script in Cheel Arena.
Clarkson jumped out to a 1-0 lead midway through the second and added another just a couple minutes later. With the partisan Cheel Arena crowd bringing plenty of energy, Colgate found itself trailing 2-0 for a second consecutive game. Tanner Gates provided the spark the Raiders needed with only seconds remaining until the second intermission.
The final period brought a sense of urgency for Colgate. A few key defensive plays and saves by Auby kept the Golden Knights scoreless, but the Raiders were unable to force overtime. Colgate falls to 6-5-1 on the year and 1-2-0 in ECAC play.
