Colgate Falls to Clarkson, 2-1

Raiders Drop First ECAC Road Game to Nationally Ranked Clarkson

POTSDAM, N.Y. - Colgate went into Cheel Arena looking to avenge its season ending loss from the previous year.

The Raiders asked a lot of Liz Auby in the first period. The newly named ECAC Goalie of the Month answered the call, stopping all ten shots directed at her and keeping the Golden Knights scoreless. Offensively, Colgate tallied eight shots in the opening 20 minutes and saw the game's first power play opportunity. Clarkson goaltender Marie-Pier Coloumbe followed Auby's lead to create a proverbial pitcher's duel. An action packed second period would flip the script in Cheel Arena.

Clarkson jumped out to a 1-0 lead midway through the second and added another just a couple minutes later. With the partisan Cheel Arena crowd bringing plenty of energy, Colgate found itself trailing 2-0 for a second consecutive game. Tanner Gates provided the spark the Raiders needed with only seconds remaining until the second intermission.

The final period brought a sense of urgency for Colgate. A few key defensive plays and saves by Auby kept the Golden Knights scoreless, but the Raiders were unable to force overtime. Colgate falls to 6-5-1 on the year and 1-2-0 in ECAC play.

From the Source

Head Coach Greg Fargo on positive takeaways from a hard fought defeat

  • "We pushed back hard after going down two goals tonight. They were able to capitalize on some of their best chances and we didn't quite do enough tonight even though we pushed back."

On Tanner Gates' goal in the final seconds of the second period

  • "Coralie Larose had a great game and was really disruptive on the penalty kill to kick start that play. Tanner made a great play to wait out the goalie before scoring that short handed goal. It was the boost we needed heading into the third period."
