Colgate Plays to Scoreless Tie With St. Lawrence

With Goals at a Premium in Canton, Neither Side Could Claim a Victory

CANTON, N.Y. - Colgate took the SUNY Canton ice with a sour taste in its mouth following Friday night's battle with Clarkson and looking to get back to .500 in the early ECAC gauntlet.

The first period couldn't have been much more even. Though St. Lawrence held a 9-6 advantage in shots, neither team was able to tilt the ice in their favor in the opening twenty. The Saints saw two power plays early on, but the Raiders' impressive penalty kill unit squashed both chances. With roughly four minutes remaining in the period, a big time save by Liz Auby helped Colgate take some momentum into the locker room.

The second period featured much of the same. The two ECAC foes skated to another scoreless twenty minutes with both netminders standing tall. Colgate saw a power play opportunity in the waning minutes, but couldn't make it count against the tough Saints defense. Luck would be on the Raiders' side, however, as St. Lawrence snuck one past Liz Auby only to have it hit the post in the final seconds.

Both teams came out for a high-stakes third period looking for answers offensively. Once again, St. Lawrence came dangerously close to breaking through. This time, it was a host of Raiders in the right place at the right time to get the puck out of the crease.

Tonight's contest would require an extra five minutes after the stalemate. The overtime period was fast-paced and looked promising to provide a winner, but the two teams finished with a scoreless tie.

Liz Auby finished the game with 33 saves to earn the first shutout of her senior season.

Bottom Line

  • Colgate 0, St. Lawrence 0
