Raiders Finish Weekend Sweep With 3-1 Victory Over Yale

Three Raiders score to secure the series sweep over the Bulldogs

New Haven, C.T.-  The Colgate women's ice hockey team traveled to Yale University for an ECAC Hockey matchup in Ingalls Rink and came away with a 3-1 victory.

Both teams had several scoring opportunities in the first period, but neither was able to find the back of the net. Colgate had the slight 9-7 shot advantage heading into the second frame.

With just over nine minutes remaining in the second, Breanne Wilson-Bennett put the Raiders up 1-0 with her eighth goal of the season. Jessie Eldridge crossed the puck to Wilson-Bennett, who was waiting at the left post and one timed it into the net. Shelby Perry dished out the secondary assist on the play.

Yale responded in the closing minutes with a goal from Jordan Chancellor to tie it up, 1-1.

The Raiders and the Bulldogs both came out in the third looking to break the tie but the game winner wouldn't come until just over halfway through the period.

Junior Megan Sullivan stole the puck in the defensive zone near the blue line, skated down, and fired a shot past Tera Hofmann. It was the Toronto, Ontario native's tenth tally of the season.

As time wound down, Yale continued to look for opportunities to tie the game back up, but Julia Vandyk stayed strong between the pipes in order to keep them off the board.

Annika Zalewski netted the insurance goal with just over a minute left in regulation to secure the win. She got the puck on a Yale turnover and skated into the neutral zone, where she shot on the empty net to make the score 3-1.

Netminder Vandyk made 18 stops in net for Colgate, while Hofmann recorded 35 saves.
