Raiders Upset #5 St. Lawrence in Overtime

Colgate Earns 4-3 Victory

CANTON, NY-  The Colgate Raiders scored a major victory as they beat the fifth ranked team in the nation, 4-3. The game saw several ties and lead changes but Colgate managed to earn the overtime victory over the St. Lawrence Saints.

Netminder Julia Vandyk earned her 14th win this season in between the pipes, which ties the program record for most victories in one season.

The first twenty minutes of play saw the Colgate defense step up and work hard. Vandyk made 11 saves in the first period alone.

The Raiders came out looking to take the lead in the second and did just that less than two minutes in. Senior Cat Quirion netted her sixth goal of the season with help from Shannon Ormel and Anonda Hoppner.

Less than two minutes later Megan Sullivan went top shelf past the glove of Grace Harrison and made the score 2-0. Shae Labbe stole the puck in the offensive zone and passed to Shelby Perry, who tapped the puck over to Sullivan for the shot.

St. Lawrences' Hannah Miller cut the lead in half with nine minutes remaining in the second. She managed to sneak the puck under the sliding pad of Vandyk.

With time winding down, the Saints tied the game up at 2-2. Nadine Edney took a hard shot from directly in front of the net to score.

Edney gave St. Lawrence their first lead of the game in the opening minutes of the third period.

But the Raiders responded well and Perry netted the equalizer on the powerplay midway through the third. Lauren Wildfang had took possession at the top of the zone and passed to Jessie Eldridge. Perry was waiting in the left faceoff circle and got a shot off that sailed past Harrison.

Neither team could score the go ahead goal so the game continued into overtime.

Both teams fought hard for possession in the overtime period, but ultimately Colgate came out on top on a goal from Bailey Larson. Labbe won a faceoff in the offensive zone and passed back to Larson, who took a hard shot and found the back of the net.

Vandyk ended the night with 30 saves, while Harrison recorded 26.
