HAMILTON
– Colgate women's ice hockey hosted its fifth annual Autism Awareness Game here Friday night.

Hundreds of fans poured into Starr Rink to watch the Raiders take on Dartmouth in an ECAC Hockey showdown. Unfortunately, Colgate fell in the contest 5-2 to the Big Green.

The Raiders saw senior Melissa Kueber and rookie Megan Sullivan net their team-leading ninth goals of the season in the contest.

After a scoreless opening period, Dartmouth got on the board first with a power play tally a little under five minutes into the middle frame.

Colgate responded with an extra skater goal of its own to knot score at 1-all. Miriam Drubel fed Breanne Wilson-Bennett the puck in front of the goal. Wilson-Bennett then found Kueber on the right wing, where the senior riffled a shot past the netminder and into the back of the goal.

Before the end of the second period the Big Green recorded two more goals to create a gap between the teams.

Dartmouth made it 4-1 after Devon Moir registered a goal eight minutes into the final frame but the Raiders would not let up. With the puck sliding toward the Big Green goal at the 12 minute mark, Sullivan sprawled out and got just enough of her stick on it to deflect the puck past the Dartmouth goalie, who was coming out to make the save. Her tally cut into the Big Green lead and made for an exciting final few minutes.

As the clock slowly wound down, the Raiders decided to pull the goalie, making for an extra skater opportunity. While Colgate got some great chances, the Big Green were ultimately able to score an empty net goal, which secured them the victory.

Ashlynne Rando played in the opening two periods between the pipes for Colgate, compiling 23 saves. Brittney Brooks came in for relief during the second period and made seven saves.

The Raiders are back in Starr Rink on Saturday for another ECAC Hockey contest at 4 p.m. with the No. 4-ranked team in the country, Harvard.

How It Happened
• Neither team registered a goal in the opening period of play despite each team having a power play opportunity.
• Four minutes and 30 seconds into the second frame, Colgate was called for cross-checking, which award Dartmouth the man-up advantage. The Big Green then converted on the chance to take a 1-0 edge.
• Less than two minutes later Dartmouth was put in the penalty box when it was charged for hooking. Just like the Big Green did, Colgate was able to slide one past the goalie to tie the score at 1-1.
• In the remaining minutes of the period, Dartmouth grabbed two more markers to create a two-goal deficit between the teams.18700
• The Big Green added a fourth goal eight minutes into the final frame but the Raiders answered nearly four minutes after that when Sullivan found the net to cut the visitor's lead in half.
• Even with the Raiders pulling their goalie to add for an extra skater late in the game, an empty net goal from Dartmouth ultimately secured the Big Green the victory.

Straight From The Source
Head coach Greg Fargo (on his thoughts on Melissa Kueber's tying goal midway through the second period): "It was a great goal. It was nice to see the power play come through at a critical time and give our team a lot of momentum. When we got that goal I thought the ice really started to tilt our way."

"We gave up a couple late in that period though that we want back. A couple mistakes and they capitalized. It was a tough way to end that period."
