POTSDAM, N.Y. – With its 2-1 win over St. Lawrence here Saturday afternoon, Colgate women's ice hockey completed a weekend sweep of the North Country.
Colgate also defeated No. 5/6 Clarkson 4-3 in overtime on Friday night. This marks the first time in program history the Raiders have swept the North Country since ECAC Hockey restructured to a weekend travel format.
Greg Fargo's team came out strong in the first frame, taking a two-goal lead less than five minutes into the contest. First-years
Jessie Eldridge and
Bailey Larson picked up the Colgate goals.
Midway through the opening period, though, St. Lawrence saw Jenna Marks cut the edge in half when she scored on a power play opportunity.
Throughout the second period there were several key chances for both teams, but neither could convert. Rookie
Julia Vandyk came up with timely saves to keep her team on top going into the final frame.
The third period was much like the second with both teams unable to capitalize on scoring chances. Ultimately, the Raiders were able to deflect any final Saints opportunities on net to secure the road victory.
The Raiders have a long break for the upcoming holiday and won't be back in action until after the New Year. They kick off the second half of their season with a Jan. 4 tilt at nearby rival Syracuse. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
Live stats will be available at the start of the game.

How It Happened• Eldridge tallied the game's opening goal less than three minutes into the first when she jumped the puck just inside the blue line. The Barrie, Ontario, native skated to the net and fired a shot right past the St. Lawrence netminder Brooke Wolejko.
• Two minutes later, Larson extended Colgate's edge after notching her seventh goal of the season. On a two-on-one opportunity, Wilson-Bennett passed the puck over to Larson, who blasted a shot into the back of the net for the two-goal lead.
• Then at the 9:05 mark, St. Lawrence received its lone goal of the game when Marks managed to slide the puck just past Vandyk, making it a one-goal game.
• The second period finished scoreless although the Raiders had several good scoring opportunities. The best one coming from
Shelby Perry on the power play with time winding down. Perry received a great cross on the right post and attempted to fire it into the back of the goal but Wolejko somehow came up with the brilliant save.
• The Saints upped their offensive pressure early in the third, throwing several good shots on frame but each time Vandyk stood her ground, turning away every attempt.
• With two minutes remaining in regulation, St. Lawrence pulled Wolejko to add for an extra attacker but the Raiders made several key plays to foil the comeback plan and earned its second ECAC Hockey win in as many days.

From The Source• Head coach
Greg Fargo (on the game) "St. Lawrence gave us a tough game today. They came out of the gate flying and we were on our heels in our own end for a good part of the opening few minutes. Just like last night though we made a big play to grab the lead and made the most of our opportunities. This group never looked back after that.
"There were some big momentum shifts throughout the entire game. We capitalized on what we needed to and got the stops that we needed. Julia (Vandyk) came up big a few times when we were under pressure."
"This is always a really tough road trip to the North Country. I'm happy for our group, and proud of the steps we've taken in this first half of the season. It feels good going into the break with two more wins following that tough road swing."
Up Next • The Raiders are back in action Jan. 4 at nearby rival Syracuse.
