#10 Colgate, Syracuse Skate to Overtime Tie

Wilson-Bennett, Zafuto Tally Goals in Sixth OT Game of Season; Vandyk Finishes with 18 Saves

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 10-ranked Colgate Women's Hockey and nearby rival Syracuse battled it out here Monday night in a hard-fought 2-2 tie.

The draw marked Colgate's sixth of the year, and the most since the Raiders recorded seven during the 2005-06 season.

The Raiders got the first and only goal of the first period when sophomore Breanne Wilson-Bennett netted her sixth of the year.

Both teams tallied goals in the second to make for an exciting final period. Megan Quinn found the back of the net for the hosts, while Olivia Zafuto got one for the Raiders.

As time was winding down in the third, the Orange managed to tie the game at 2-2 with a little less than four minutes remaining. Neither team found the back of the net in the final minutes of regulation, forcing overtime.

The extra period saw several chances for both teams but no one was able to find the back of the net.

Rookie Julia Vandyk made 18 saves in the contest, while Jenn Gilligan had 20 stops for the Orange.

The Raiders are back in action on Friday and Saturday when they travel to Dartmouth and No. 9 Harvard. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively. Live stats and video will be available at the start of both contests.

How It Happened
• A little over 12 minutes into the first frame, Bailey Larson and Shae Labbe teamed up to find Wilson-Bennett directly in front of the net. The sophomore then fired a hard shot straight past the Orange goalie for the early 1-0 edge.
• Halfway through the second period though Quinn snuck one past Vandyk to knot things up at 1-all.
• Colgate had a few great scoring chances throughout the middle frame but weren't able to tally one until there was exactly one minute remaining. Kaila Pinkney sent the puck up to a waiting Jessie Eldridge in the Raiders' offensive zone. Zafuto joined Eldridge on the attack for a two-on-one opportunity and Zafuto ultimately took the final shot that sailed past Gilligan, handing Colgate back its advantage.
• The Raiders had that one-goal lead heading into the third period and maintained it for the majority of the frame. With just under four minutes remaining, however, Danielle Leslie managed to slide the puck between the pipe and Vandyk's pad to tie the game up and send it into overtime.
• Vandyk looked solid between the pipes during overtime, registering several key stops, which kept the score knotted at 2-2.
• Although Colgate had a few good looks it could not find the back of the net during the five minute extra period.
