Colgate Takes Down #5 Clarkson in OT

Raiders Grab First ECAC Hockey Win After Labbe's Game-Winner; Vandyk Records Win Between Pipes

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Rookie Shae Labbe scored a deflected goal 12 seconds into overtime to hand Colgate Women's Hockey its first ECAC Hockey victory of the year.

The Raiders snapped a five-game losing streak to No. 5/6 Clarkson here Friday night after earning a 4-3 road win.

Colgate posted two early goals thanks to tallies from Megan Sullivan and Olivia Zafuto to take a 2-0 edge midway through the opening period. Sullivan's marker was her second power play goal of the year. The Golden Knights cut the lead in half at the 14:20 mark to make it a 2-1 game at the first intermission.

Clarkson netted the tying goal late in the second frame, making for an exciting final period.

The Golden Knights were called for checking 2:55 into the last frame, awarding the Raiders a man-up advantage. Shelby Perry scored her fourth goal of the year to put Colgate in front 3-2. Unfortunately, Clarkson pulled its goalie to add an extra skater late in the contest and equalized, sending the game into overtime.

Colgate wasted little time as it scored the game-winner just 12 seconds into the extra period, evening its league record at 1-1-4.

Rookie netminder Julia Vandyk was solid in between the pipes for Colgate, notching her fifth victory of the year. The Cambridge, Ontario, native pushed aside 33 saves, shifting her season total to 173.

The Raiders remain in the North Country for one more ECAC Hockey contest with St. Lawrence on Saturday. That match is slated for a 4 p.m. puck drop. Live stats and video are available at the start.

How It Happened
• Colgate jumped in front seven minutes into the contest after Clarkson was called for interference. The Raiders used the man-up advantage to net the game's opening goal thanks to Sullivan's tally.
• Just 45 seconds later the Raiders made it a two-goal margin after Zafuto snipped one past Shae Tiley.
• The Golden Knights wouldn't go away though cutting into the Colgate edge midway through the first frame.
• The hosts then knotted the score at 2-all, when Loren Gabel notched the tying goal 18:26 into the middle period.
• Perry answered five minutes into the third frame when she scored her second power play goal of the season. The Golden Knights were called for checking and nearly killed off the penalty but the Raiders were able to just sneak one in with seven seconds remaining on the advantage.
• As the clock wound down, Clarkson decided to pull its goalie to add for an extra skater. Unfortunately for Colgate, that strategy worked out as Olivia Howe netted her 10th goal of the year.
• The overtime period barely started before the Raiders finished off the contest on Labbe's first career game-winner. From the faceoff, Wildfang slid the puck across the ice to Larson, who was streaking down the left side of the ice. The rookie then found fellow classmate Labbe in front of the goal, where she redirected the cross past Tiley and into the back of the net.

From The Source
Head coach Greg Fargo (on the game) "That was an exciting team win tonight against a very good team. I give our group a lot of credit for never stopping during that game. We had to scratch and claw for everything tonight, Clarkson certainly didn't make it easy for us."

"Early on we weathered the storm and got up a couple goals early. Two really good offensive plays - that was big for us. Our special teams was great tonight. Our power play gave us some energy early and we got a couple great kills. We also added some really strong saves in the third period that gave our team the momentum we needed. Despite giving up a late goal, our group refocused well heading into overtime."

"All night it felt like everything we shot had a chance to go in the net and we talked about it during the break. Bailey (Larson) didn't waste any time putting one on net and Shae (Labbe) was there to get a piece of it."
