Power Play Goals Propel Raiders

Colgate Earns Second Season Shutout with 3-0 Victory Over Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Two middle period power play goals helped Colgate shutout Brown on Friday afternoon, 3-0.

The Raiders came out on fire in the opening period holding a shot advantage of 18-1 but were unable to find the back of the net.

Colgate would not be denied for much longer though as rookie Shelby Perry netted her third career marker and the eventual game-winner three minutes and 18 second into the second frame. After Brown was called for checking, Colgate used its man-up advantage to take the 1-0 edge.

The Bears were again called for checking later in the period, which awarded the Raiders another power play with five minutes left. This time it was senior Taylor Craig who finished one off past Brown's netminder to give Colgate the 2-0 advantage.

Melissa Kueber added an insurance goal on an empty net late in the game, which ultimately secured the Raiders their second league win and second shutout of the year.

The Raiders held the massive shot advantage overall at 42-18. Colgate's 42 shots in the game were a season-high for the Raiders.

Junior Ashlynne Rando recorded 18 saves in the contest, including 13 in the middle frame alone.

Colgate has a quick turnaround as it travels to Yale on Saturday for another ECAC Hockey contest at 3 p.m. with the Bulldogs.

The Game-Winner

• Finally with five seconds left on the man-advantage, Perry collected the puck following a blocked shot and placed it past the goalie for the 1-0 edge early in the second period.

• Colgate had two more power play chances in the final frame but were unable to add to its total until Kueber secured the victory with her empty net goal.

Straight From The Source
Head coach Greg Fargo (on his overall thoughts from the game): "We got a really strong game from our entire group today. It was probably the best start to a game that we've had all year. We came out absolutely flying."

"Not scoring in the first could have been frustrating but our group stayed with it. Our forecheck was great, we played smart and simple for the majority of the game and ended up with the result we were looking for. When we're committed to play that way good things happen."

"Everyone contributed tonight but it was really great to see Kayla Haus step in and play an important role at forward. I'm happy for her. Our special teams were excellent as well."

"We're halfway to our weekend goal. We know tomorrow's game will bring an even higher pace but our team is looking forward to the opportunity."

Up Next
• The Raiders have another league contest Saturday at Yale. That game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
• The Bulldogs dropped a 2-0 decision to Cornell on Friday.
