Wilson-Bennett Adds to Career Goals Total

Raiders drop 3-1 decision to St. Lawrence 3-1; Rando posts 39 saves

HAMILTON – Rookie Breanne Wilson-Bennett netted her fifth career goal but it wasn't enough to spark a Colgate victory here Saturday afternoon.

The Raiders eventually dropped a 3-1 decision to their guests, St. Lawrence.

The Saints jumped out to the 2-0 edge after a marker in both the first and second period but a Raider tally 43 seconds into the third frame made for an exciting final period.

Despite some Colgate attempts in the remaining minutes, an empty net goal from St. Lawrence ultimately secured the Saints the victory.

Junior Ashlynne Rando was stellar between the pipes for the Raiders despite allowing two goals in the contest. She finished with 39 total saves.

The Raiders are back on the road Jan. 16 and 17 when they head to Brown and Yale for two more ECAC Hockey games. The Raiders face off with the Bear on Friday at 4 p.m. before their contest with the Bulldogs on Saturday at 3 p.m.

• Colgate would even pull its goalie late in the game but an empty net goal with 33 seconds remaining would ultimately secure the Saints the victory.

Period Breakdown
• St. Lawrence notched a goal just four minutes into the contest after a scrum in front of the net. The Saints fired off a shot from the left point that was pushed around in front of the goal before Raniwsky finished it off right outside the crease.
• The Saints made it 2-0 a little less than six minutes into the second period. The play started after the puck was knocked around between a few St. Lawrence players before Padalis collected it and shot near post past Rando for the tally.
• Colgate came out strong in the final frame cutting into the Saints edge at 2-1, 43 seconds into the period. The Raiders found themselves on a 2-on-1 in which Wilson-Bennett faked a pass to Kueber and shot from just inside the two faceoff circles beating the goalie near side.
• Despite some back-and-forth chances Colgate still trailed by one late in the game. The Raiders then pulled the goalie to add for another skater but an empty net goal with 33 seconds remaining secured the visitors the win.

Straight From The Source
• Head coach Greg Fargo (on his overall thoughts from the game): "I really liked our third period. We had some good push back in the final frame after being down a couple going in. We really wanted to tilt the ice in our favor and try to get something going."

"We had a great goal on a 2-on-1 to get us to within one. Our penalty kill was also exceptional tonight and all weekend really so we will try to build off that. Our biggest challenge here moving forward is to get that start to where it needs to be, keep playing with that urgency that we had in the third period tonight and make sure it's there early in the game so we can carry it throughout."
