HAMILTON – Rookie
Annika Zalewski recorded her third career marker on Saturday afternoon but it wasn't enough to spark a Colgate women's hockey victory.
The Raiders dropped a 3-1 decision to Penn State after the Nittany Lions registered three unanswered goals.
Zalewski got Colgate on the board first just three minutes into the contest on a man-up opportunity. After the Nittany Lions were called for interference the Raiders worked the puck around the two faceoff circles.
Breanne Wilson-Bennett then shifted the puck over to
Nicole Gass, who fired a shot toward goal. PSU's Hannah Ehresmann made the initial save but couldn't fall on the rebound fast enough as Zalewski was there to put it away.
The Raiders took their 1-0 edge into the second period but a power play goal from PSU 13 minutes into the middle frame knotted the score.
Despite some good scoring chances from Colgate, the Nittany Lions tallied two more goals, including an empty netter, to ultimately secure the victory.
