HAMILTON – Rookie women's ice hockey player
Ellie DeCaprio tallied her first career goal but it wasn't enough in a 6-4 loss to Penn State here Friday night.
The Raiders also received goals from first-years
Annika Zalewski and
Breanne Wilson-Bennett along with senior
Melissa Kueber throughout the contest.
Â
The two teams combined for a season-high 10 goals in the contest. Colgate and Robert Morris recorded nine goals together in a 6-3 Raider victory back on Oct. 10.
Â
Zalewski netted the game's first goal 4:15 into the opening period after placing one past the Nittany Lions' netminder Celine Whitlinger from in front of the net.
Â
PSU then rattled off three goals spanning until the 10:01 mark in the middle period but DeCaprio's first career marker a little more than a minute later made it a one-goal game.
Â
The Nittany Lions added two more goals though making it a 5-2 game with five minutes remaining in the second frame.Â
Â
The last two Colgate goals came late in the second period and early in the third as the Raiders were attempting to rally from the deficit.
Â
Penn State held on, however, and scored the insurance goal with less than three minutes remaining.
These two teams meet again Saturday afternoon in the final contest of the two-game set. The puck drops in Starr Rink at 4 p.m.
