HAMILTON – Brittany Phillips notched two goals in the middle frame as the Colgate women's ice hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision to Dartmouth Friday night.
Colgate (9-18-3) saw Phillips grab her 12th and 13th goal in the game. Senior captain
Jenna Klynstra added two assists on the night, while
Megan Wickens notched one.
Ashlynne Rando made 26 saves throughout the game including 13 in the middle frame.
Dartmouth (15-7-4) scored just two minutes into the first period and added two more throughout the second period. Camille Dumais, Ailish Forfar and Jenna Hobeika all notched goals in the win. Lindsay Holdcroft pushed aside 29 shots and 15 in the final frame for her 14th win this season.
Dumais got the Big Green on the board just 2:53 into the initial period. Laura Stacey fired a shot on net deflecting off a Colgate player and falling at the stick of Dumais. She would quickly slide it home giving the Big Green the early 1-0 lead.
The Raiders were awarded a power play opportunity in the closing minutes of the period. Colgate received two quick shots by Klynstra but was unable to equalize as the time expired.
The Big Green tacked on another goal 1:30 into the middle period on a man-up opportunity. Sasha Nanji took a hard shot but Rando came up with a big save to push it away. Forfar was there to put in the rebound to extend the Dartmouth lead to 2-0.
Dartmouth knocked in the eventual game-winner three minutes later when Hobeika scored her seventh of the year. The unassisted goal came 4:36 into the second period, giving the Big Green a 3-0 advantage.
Colgate's
Jocelyn Simpson had a breakaway a couple minutes later but was unable to finish the play.
Miriam Drubel slid on the ice to get Simpson the puck, but Holdcroft came up with a good save to keep her shutout alive.
The Raiders converted on a power play opportunity midway through the period. Phillips grabbed her 12th goal of the year on the play. Klynstra and Wickens started the attack and passed the puck over Holdcroft's right shoulder. Phillips found the open puck and placed it in the back of the net to get the Raiders on the board.
Two and a half minutes later, Colgate grabbed another goal to cut the Dartmouth lead to one. Phillips fired a shot but Holdcroft came up with the initial save. She made another big save on a Klynstra follow up shot but was unable to stop the rebound put in by Phillips.
Colgate pulled the goalie with 1:47 left in the third period to try and find the equalizing goal. Dartmouth was called for tripping giving the Raiders a man up opportunity in the last two minutes. Even with the extra player on the attack, the Raiders were unable to find the needed goal to tie the game.
Colgate is back on the ice Saturday when the Raiders welcome No. 5 Harvard at 4 p.m. Saturday's contest also marks the last regular season game for three senior Raiders.
