HAMDEN, Conn. – Senior
Brittany Phillips recorded her 100th career point Sunday afternoon to become the sixth ever Colgate women's ice hockey player to reach the milestone. The Raiders dropped a 4-1 decision to Quinnipiac in the game.
"I am very happy for Brittany to be able to get her 100 career point," head coach
Greg Fargo said. "It is quite an accomplishment that few players in the history of our program have achieved. She is having a great season and she playing her best hockey right now.
Colgate (9-17-3) saw the Lauder, Man., native grab its only goal 23 seconds into the final frame. The goal slid her into sixth all-time in Colgate history with 50 career goals. Phillips is also currently 10th all-time with 50 career assists.
Rookie
Ashlynne Rando pushed aside 33 shots in the loss, and a game-high 16 saves in the middle period alone.
"Tonight was a hard fought game," Fargo added. "We started off a bit slow early on but I like how we fought back as the game wore on. We got better as the game progressed. When Brittany scored early in the third it gave us the life we needed and our bench was really believing at that point.
"Quinnipiac is a very good team, well coached and disciplined in their systems. Obviously our penalty kill has to be better but there were some positives we are taking into the game this Friday verse Dartmouth."
Quinnipiac (17-9-3) was led by Kelly Babstock, who scored two goals. Felica Vieweg knocked in the game winner midway through the second period and Nicole Kosta earned her 11th goal of the season to finish out the Bobcat scoring. Early in the third period the Raiders cut the Bobcats lead to 2-1 when Phillips scored her 11th goal of the season. The play originated from
Megan Wickens and
Jenna Klynstra before finding the stick of Phillips 23 seconds into the final frame.
Quinnipiac added an insurance goal on a man up opportunity after Colgate was called for slashing at the 8:50 mark. Eight seconds later they tallied their third goal off the game when Kosta put one in the back of the net.
The Raiders tried to rally by pulling Rando and adding an extra skater in the last three minutes but were unable to get back in the game. The Bobcats added one last goal on the empty net with eight seconds remaining in game.
