SYRACUSE, N.Y. –
The Colgate women's ice hockey team ran into a hard Syracuse team, falling 6-0 to the Orange here Tuesday night.

Colgate (5-13-2) saw Miriam Drubel grab five shots in the game while Taylor Volpe added three of her own. Rookies Ashlynne Rando (10 saves) and Brittney Brooks (15 saves) each made an appearance in the nearby matchup.

Syracuse (10-8-1) received a hat trick from sophomore Shiann Darkangelo. The Orange also saw goals by Emily Auerbacher, Brittney Krebs, and Jacquie Greco. In net for SU was Kallie Billadeau, who grabbed 22 saves throughout the matchup.

The Orange got the game's first goal 4:16 into the contest. Auerbacher netted one past Rando, giving the rookie her first career goal. The play originated after SU intercepted the puck behind the Colgate net. The Orange made two quick passes to the front of the goal and fired one on Rando, who managed to come up with the initial save but couldn't hold onto the puck as it trickled in off the rebound.

The Raiders would not let up, however, earning a few scoring chances of their own. Brittany Phillips lifted the puck over Billadeau's right shoulder for what looked like a Raiders goal. At the last second, Billadeau made a great save to push the shot aside.

Late in the period Stephanie Giannopoulos stole a pass deep in the SU zone. She managed to get a shot off but yet again Billadeau was there to make the save. Only a few minutes later, Colgate got its best scoring opportunity of the period when Jocelyn Simpson and Phillips connected. Simpson found Phillips with a cross-ice pass, where she blasted it on net. The shot nearly hit the top right corner of the net but sailed just wide.

Syracuse opened up the scoring in the beginning of the second, notching four more goals in the first 10minutes. The first one came just 1:05 into the period. Darkangelo received the puck and skated to the front of the goal, trying her luck at net. Rando made the initial save but the puck ended up falling into the goal behind her.

The Orange extended their lead to 3-0 after Krebs put one in from the neutral zone. Rando was shielded and lost track of the puck, allowing Krebs to grab the short-handed goal.

Six minutes later, Darkangelo tacked on two more quick goals for SU. The fourth goal of the game came from a 2-on-1 fast break. Darkangelo went back and forth with Melissa Piacentini and was able to get a shot off. The Raiders defense couldn't recover fast enough and the Orange found the back of the net yet again. Darkangelo scored her third of the game 20 seconds later, giving the Orange the 5-0 advantage.

Colgate tried to get on the board when Phillips found Jenna Klynstra in the offensive zone. Klynstra skated to the front of the net, and before she could get a shot off the SU defense knocked it away to keep the shutout alive. The Raiders were unable to get on the scoreboard in the final frame and fell to the Orange by the 6-0 count.

Colgate returns to the ice Saturday, traveling to RIT for a matchup with the Tigers at 2 p.m.
