NEW HAVEN, Conn. (2/10/12)
– The Colgate women's hockey team played its fourth overtime game of the season when it tied with Yale 1-1 on Friday night in Ingalls Rink.

Freshman Melissa Kueber scored the Raiders' only goal with assists from sophomore Jocelyn Simpson and junior Jenna Klynstra. The team outshot the Bulldogs 44-33 in the game.

After a slow start to the first period in which both teams searched for some offense, Colgate (10-18-2, 5-12-2 ECAC Hockey) found itself with a power play opportunity just 2:27 into play. The Raiders were able to create some scoring opportunities with a series of shots on net during the extra skater advantage but could not capitalize. As the period continued, both teams began to play a more attacking game as they searched for the opening goal of the game. The Raiders' perseverance eventually paid off at the 16:54 mark when Kueber found the back of the net with help from Simpson and Klynstra to give her team a 1-0 lead going into the second frame.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an explosive start, netting an equalizer just 67 seconds into the second stanza to tie the game at 1-1. Both teams continued to battle it out on the ice, with Colgate finding its second extra skater advantage in the 12th minute but it was held scoreless once again by Yale. Neither team was able to score a goal in the second 20 minutes of play despite accumulating a total of 24 shots on goal between them. The Raiders held an 18-6 shooting advantage.

The third period was the most physical of the three, resulting in four penalties being called, four of which were on the Bulldogs. Colgate first found itself on back-to-back power play opportunities from the 7:25 mark until the 10:53 mark but could not find a goal to reclaim its lead. Yale then received its first extra skater advantage in the final two minutes of the game, but then a penalty on the Bulldogs had both teams down a skater until the end of the scoreless third frame.

With the game tied at 1-1, the teams went into the overtime period looking to clinch the game winner. However, with only three shots on goal taken between the two of them in the additional five minutes of play, neither one could net the decider, resulting in a 1-1 overtime tie.

Senior Kimberly Sass had 32 saves in the game while Yale's Genny Ladiges had 43. Colgate was held scoreless on five power play opportunities while denying the Bulldogs a goal on their one extra skater advantage.

The Raiders will resume play tomorrow (Feb. 11) when they travel to Brown for their final regular-season road matchup. The game will take place at 4 p.m.
