HAMILTON –
Brittany Phillips scored the lone goal for the Colgate women's hockey team as they lost to Quinnipiac 2-1 Friday afternoon at Starr Rink.

Colgate (2-7) was led by Phillips who grabbed her first goal of the season just five minutes into the second period. Ashlynne Rando grabbed a total of 36 saves in the game.

Quinnipiac (5-3-1) saw goals from Brittany Lyons and Kelly Babstock. Victoria Vigilanti made 13 saves throughout the game.

The Bobcats got on the board first with a power play goal coming with 7:24 remaining in the first period to take a 1-0 lead. Quinnipiac had great passing between Nicole Kosta and Kelly Babstock. Then Babstock slid a pass across to Lyons and she hit the open net, as Rando was committed for a shot by Babstock. The Bobcats outshot the Raiders, 17-7, in the first period and each team earned power play chances.

In the second period, the Raiders answered on the power play by Phillips. Miriam Drubel found Simpson on the doorstep, but Victoria Vigilante made the stop. However, she couldn't cover the puck fast enough and Phillips saw the opportunity and attacked the puck. After a couple of swipes, she connected with the puck and it crossed the line to tie the score at 1-1 with 15:27 left in the frame.

Quinnipiac regained the lead at 2-1 just 2:27 later with Kelly Babstock tallying her 11th goal of the season. She skated in from the left side and fired a shot off the crossbar and into the net. Nicole Connery and Nicole Kosta were given assists on the play as they got Babstock into open ice.

The Raiders couldn't rally in the third period and the game ended 2-1. Colgate will be back on the ice tomorrow when they face Princeton at 3 p.m. at Starr Rink.
