HAMILTON – Melissa Kueber of the women's ice hockey team grabbed her second goal of the season in Colgate's 9-2 loss to No. 2 ranked Cornell Saturday afternoon.
Colgate (3-9-1) was led by Kueber and
Miriam Drubel, who both notched goals throughout the game. While all the Raider goalies saw action,
Ashlynne Rando stopped a total of 20 shots on goal in her two periods of work.
#2 Cornell (8-1) saw three girls score two goals in Taylor Woods, Brianne Jenner and Monika Leck. The Big Red also received goals from Victoria Pittens, Jess Brown, and Jessica Campbell. In net for Cornell was Katelyn Pippy grabbing 16 saves.
Pittens got the Big Red on top grabbing her first goal of the season 6:52 into the first period. The play started with Jillian Saulnier and Cassandra Poudrier. Less than a minute later Cornell would score its second goal of the game when Brown put one in the back of the net. Campbell add the game-winning goal when she teamed up with Hayleigh Cudmore to make it 3-0.
Kueber got the Raiders on the board with less than a minute to play in the first making it 6-1. Cornell was called for hooking giving Colgate a power play opportunity. Drubel and
Brittany Phillips found Kueber, who was able to put it away.
Throuhout the second period the Big Red were able to grab to more goals. Jenner's goal at the 13:51 mark was assisted by Laura Fortino and Jess Brown. Leck scored her second of the game with less than three minutes to go in the period.
Drubel added to the Colgate scoring 17 minutes into the final period. Her goal was aided by Phillips, who grabbed two assists on the day.
The deficit would show to be too much and the Raiders would fall to the Big Red for the second time this season. Colgate will travel to Harvard and Dartmouth next as they look to rally back from this weekend. They face the Crimson of Harvard on Friday at 7 p.m. and the Big Green on Saturday at 4 p.m.
