HAMILTON, N.Y. (2/19/11) – Robbie Bourdon scored with 5:58 left in the game to propel the Colgate men's hockey team to a 2-1 win over Harvard to sweep senior weekend at Starr Rink on Saturday.
Colgate (7-23-2, 4-14-2 ECAC) has now won four of its last five contests with the win tonight. Bourdon led the way with a goal and assist for two points, while
Nick Prockow posted two helpers. Rookie
Chris Wagner scored for the second-straight night and classmate
Eric Mihalik made 27 saves for his fourth win in his last five starts.
The Crimson (6-19-1, 4-14-1 ECAC) got its lone goal from Danny Biega with the assists to Chris Huxley and Daniel Moriarty. Kyle Richter made 26 stops between the pipes, but took his 10th loss of the year. The loss ended a three-game unbeaten streak for the Crimson.
Harvard struck first with a power play goal with 9:33 left in the first period as Biega made it 1-0 Crimson. Moriarty found Huxley in front and instead of taking the shot, Huxley made the extra pass across the slot to Danny Biega and he hit the open net.
Colgate answered 3:22 later with a nice hustle goal by Wagner to tie the game at 1-1. The work on the play was done by Bourdon as he was given an assist. The sophomore hustled past a Harvard defender on a dump in and put a shot on Richter that he saved. Wagner then swooped in to put home the rebound as he broke into the zone after dumping the puck in.
The teams went scoreless in the second period and each team failed on one power play opportunity apiece. Colgate had an 11-9 advantage in shots in the period.
The third period started out as a defensive struggle, but Bourdon changed that with his ninth of the season to hand the Raiders a 2-1 lead, which they didn't give up.
Kevin McNamara chipped the puck out of the defensive zone to Prockow and then he found Bourdon. The sophomore charged into the zone and as Prockow cut to the net he fired shot. The puck got by Prockow and past Richter for the gamewinner.
Shots were even at 28 apiece. Harvard scored the only power play goal of the night and each team got three opportunities with the extra skater.
Colgate will be back in action next weekend for the final two games of the regular season at Yale and Brown.
