SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (2/12/11) –
The Colgate men's hockey team jumped out to a two-goal lead in the first period, but ninth-ranked Union netted the next five goals and handed the Raiders a 6-3 defeat at Messa Rink on Saturday night.

Colgate (5-23-2, 3-14-2 ECAC) got goals from three different skaters, while Kurtis Bartliff led the team with two points on two assists. Brian Day, Thomas Larkin and Kevin McNamara were the scorers and rookie Eric Mihalik did what he could in net with 30 saves and five goals against.

The Dutchmen (22-7-3, 14-3-1 ECAC) saw Adam Presizniuk net two goals, while Daniel Carr and Josh Jooris posted two points on a goal and an assist. Stephane Boileau had two helpers on the night and Keith Kinkaid made 24 saves for his 21st win of the year.

Colgate drew first blood with 9:59 left in the first period with a goal from Day for his ninth of the season. Matt Firman was given an assist on the play after he fired the puck off the backboards and got a great bounce. Day charged the puck and took a low shot that slipped past Kinkaid for the 1-0 lead. Christian Long was also awarded an assist for the Raiders.

Larkin pushed the lead up to 2-0 with a power play goal on the Raiders' third power play opportunity of the period. After receiving a pass from Bartliff, Austin Smith chipped the puck over a Union stick and back to Larkin at the point. He then took a slapper from the point and it found its way through Kinkaid to give Colgate a big 2-0 lead.

Union got on the board with 13:50 left in the second period with Presizniuk cutting the lead to 2-1. Matt Hatch tried a wrap around that Mihalik stopped, but the rebound came to Presizniuk, who was charging in from the right circle and hit the net for the goal.

The Dutchmen tied the score at 2-2 with a goal by John Simpson at the 5:12 mark with the assist to Boileau. Union pressured a tired Raider defense and it paid off. Mihalik put forth a great effort with multiple saves, but he was pushed into the net during a scrum and Simpson somehow made contact with the puck for the goal.

Presizniuk gave the Dutchmen their first lead of the game at 3-2 with 14:45 left in the game with his second of the night. Kelly Zajac skated pas the Colgate defense and went in on a 2-on-0. Mihalik made the initial save, but without the defense, Presizniuk hit the open net on Union's 10th-straight shot of the period. Carr pushed the lead up to 4-2 just 16 seconds later with the assist to Jooris. It took the Dutchmen nine shots to score on Mihalik in the period and then scored on their next two.

Union increased its lead to 5-2 on its first power play goal of the night on the team's second man advantage of the night. Jooris gave the Dutchmen a commanding lead with the team's 42nd power play goal of the season with the assists to Jeremy Welsh and Carr.

Colgate stopped the five-goal streak with 2:12 remaining in the third on a goal by McNamara, who scored his second of the weekend. Francois Brisebois was given the assist on the play to make it 5-3. Wayne Simpson scored his second of the night a minute later with an empty netter with 1:12 left.
