Raiders Welcome Vermont for Two-Game Set

HAMILTON, N.Y. (11/25/11) – The Colgate women's hockey team will complete the 2011 portion of its schedule this weekend when it hosts Vermont in a two-game set on Saturday, Nov. 26 and Sunday, Nov. 27 both at 2 p.m. in Starr Rink.
 
The Raiders are coming off a 5-2 setback to Robert Morris on Tuesday night. Sophomore Jocelyn Simpson and junior Jenna Klynstra scored a goal each in the game.

POINT LEADERS
Colgate (5-9-1, 2-4-1 ECAC Hockey) is led by junior Brittany Phillips who has 16 points from five goals and 11 assists. She is followed by sophomore Jocelyn Simpson and freshman Melissa Kueber. Simpson has six goals and eight assists for 14 points while Kueber has 12 points from a team-best eight goals and four assists.

SCORING IN NUMBERS
The team has had several players contribute to scoring this season and now has five Raiders with points in the double digits. Colgate has eight players with five or more points and 17 with at least one point, including goaltender Kimberly Sass. Combined the team has a total of 98 points from 36 goals and 62 assists.

SASS APPROACHING PROGRAM RECORDS
Senior Kimberly Sass continues to have a solid performance in net for the Raiders. She is currently ranked second in program history with 2,029 career saves, is tied for third in career wins with 29 and is fourth in career shut outs with seven. The goaltender currently leads the ECAC Hockey league with 403 saves this season.
 
SERIES
Colgate leads the all-time series against Vermont, owning an 11-3-1 record since the teams first met in the 1997-98 season. This will be the ninth meeting between the two teams in Starr Rink, with the Raiders holding a 5-2-1 home advantage. Colgate is on a nine-game unbeaten streak against the Catamounts, winning the most recent meeting 3-1 in Burlington, Vt. during the 2004-05 season.
 
SCOUTING VERMONT
The Catamounts (2-9-4, 2-6 Hockey East), who were picked to finish sixth in the Hockey East Preseason Poll, are coming off a 5-2 conference loss to Maine on Wednesday afternoon. The team's only wins this season were over New Hampshire and Providence, and its ties were with Clarkson, Rensselaer and Niagara twice.
 
Vermont is led by freshmen Amanda Pelkey, Keystal Baumann and Meghan Huertas. Pelkey has a team-high nine points from three goals and six assists while Baumann and Huertas have eight points apiece. Baumann has four goals and four assists and Huertas has one goal and a team-best seven assists. Defending the net is sophomore Roxanne Douville who has a 3.74 goals against average and a total of 299 saves for a .890 save percentage.
